Green Day are in the newest edition of the Italian Vanity Fair. On the cover it says “Green Day: your kids don’t have sex?” In the interview they talk about their relationship with their children, and where they draw the line between being a conservative or a liberal parent.

Here’s the part of the interview that was highlighted on the cover.

-Vanity Fair: Aren’t you afraid that your kids would feel embarrassed hearing you singing about the things you do in bed?
-Billie Joe: I’m not, after all, sex is the cause of their birth.

-VF: Sure, but most kids don’t like to think about their parents doing that.
-BJ: Even I don’t like to think about my kids having sex. But you can’t think about those things when you write songs.

-VF: What do you mean when you say you are a “conservative parent”?
-BJ: I want to know what my kids do. And I want to have an open dialogue with them. I became a father when I was very young, so there is not a big generation gap between us. Both Tré and I became fathers for the 1st time when we were 23, Mike when he was about 24. Therefore we can talk about everything with them: music, boys and girls as the case may be, alcohol, drugs. The only thing I ask my kids is “don’t lie to me”.
